IaSi Planteaza
A very fun initiative is going to take place this Saturday, IaSi Planteaza. What is it all about? You go with the rest of the volunteers to an area affected by landslides and plant trees there.
We find this opportunity, to go and plant a tree, an excellent chance to show your support for our environment because to make a change you have to start with small things. And planting a tree is a small gesture towards that direction, making a change, and besides all this, it won't be very time consuming (around a few hours).
Therefore, we recommend you all to go sign up and make a small gesture towards helping our environment, you'll be very pleased with yourselves after you've done this, trust me ;). Have you ever planted a tree? We haven't, and we are very excited to do it :)

Eart Hour 2010: Coming soon!
Just one month left until Earth Hour 2010, which will be held on the 27th of March between 8.30 and 9.30 pm. But you may ask "What is Earth Hour? I've never heard of it".
Well, Earth Hour is a global event organized by World Wildlife Fund and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. It is held on the last Saturday of March.
The first edition took place in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. The event was adopted by many cities in 2008 and in 2009 hundreds of millions of people showed their support by turning off their lights.
Show your support for our planet by turning off the lights for one hour. We will take part in this event, will you ?
Visit the official website for more information.

The "Rustle the Leaf" Comics
Ok, it's time for a more lighthearted post, since the last few ones were a bit formal/serious :). Anyway, we've recently stumbled upon a very entertaining site while looking for environmental related comics. It's called rustletheleaf.com, and wouldn't you know, it has a whole archive full of entertaining eco comics and they're quite funny, yaaay :D
I haven't finished going through the whole archive, but I'll share one of my favorites:
I especially enjoy Rooty, the sarcastic and often quite cynical acorn sprout (that's what he actually is, according to the site, he looks just like a walnut to me) which reminds me a bit of Garfield regarding his sarcasm.
Well, seems we have what to do when we get bored and we'll post more funny comics about Rustle the Leaf and his friends :)

About SEP's organizers: part 2
In our last post we talked about one of SEP's organizers, AIESEC. Now we're gonna tell a bit about SEP's other national organizer, which is The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
Royal Bank of Scotland PLC was founded in Edinburgh in the year 1727 and ever since it has grown significantly. Together with other well known names of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC, such as NatWest, Ulster Bank, Coutts or Citizens, provides financial services. At the end of the year 2007, RBS successfully lead the bid to acquire ABN AMRO, and in Romania the bank became RBS in October 2008.
The partnership with AIESEC Romania resulted in the foundation of the Sustainability Education Program, a cooperation based on the many years experience of working together with positive results for both organizations and the specific needs of the local environment.
The Sustainability Education Program was launched in March 2007 and contributed to the education on sustainable development of young people in Romania, through theoretical dimensions and also through implementation of practical activities. The pilot program was implemented in eight Romanian cities: Bucharest, Braşov, Cluj-Napoca, Constanţa, Galaţi, Iaşi, Oradea and Sibiu. You can find the results of the 2007-2008 edition here.
Thank you RBS for your continuous support and may this year's edition surpass everyone's expectations :)

What is SEP ?
SEP (Sustainability Education Program) is a national project developed by AIESEC Romania and RBS, with the purpose to raise awareness and teach Romanian students how to live a sustainable life in connection with Earth.
The project aims to put together Romanian students and interns with worldwide experience in a learning environment which will provide them the best opportunities to find out things about sustainability, development, responsibility and social impact.
We believe in this education program because on medium and long term the students will represent good change agents in the society, regarding sustainable development on one hand and organizational representatives on the other hand.
